The Challenge

With the prevalence of hate speech, fake news and mis-and disinformation, it’s easy for SA citizens to fall prey to all the negativity, which fractures our society and intentionally keeps us isolated in our knowledge, views and beliefs.

Project Objective

CareZA was created by the CABC to provide South Africans, and all who live in South Africa, with a non-partisan platform where they can access all the latest, fact checked news and information on all topical issues affecting our society, from Covid-19 to xenophobia, gender-based violence, corruption, environment and more. CareZA encourages interaction, debate and opinions on its social media channels to stimulate active citizenry and much needed conversations and connections between the residents of this beautiful country. Through CareZA we have created thought-provoking content to create awareness and educate around crucial issues. Watch our content films here.

The Results

In the first five months of CareZA being on Facebook, it acquired a following of 17 000 people on a shoestring budget compared to big brands. Our posts reach hundreds of thousands of people every month and tens of thousands engage with our always-on content. Our film content that covers important social issues has reached over a million people and garnered media coverage from ENCA and IOL and our GBV video picked up a peer-recognised award along the way. CareZA is resonating with people, they may not always agree, but crucially people are talking about the issues and engaging. Our website contains an archive of Daily Reports from the CABC’s data analyst team, and essential reading on the latest news and op-eds every citizen needs to know. Our website boasts a respectable 4000 visits every month.
